Donations to the Haiti Earthquake cross the 1 million mark
4 FEBRUARY 2010, SINGAPORE – The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) have received a total of SGD1,146,408 from individuals, corporates and religious organizations to aid in the overall relief and recovery efforts of the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
The Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is spearheading the overall relief and reconstruction operations in Haiti, with the support of the ICRC, the IFRC and its 186 network of national societies (including the SRC) globally.
The money will be used to support the overall relief operations and reconstruction efforts in Haiti. These include providing temporary shelters and family kits, restoring water and sanitation facilities, as well as providing medical care and psychological support to the affected population.
“We will have to look at how we can help the host families, how we help those who want to stay long-term while the capital is rebuilt, aiding people who want to leave, investing in infrastructure and perhaps even helping to set up Red Cross villages,” said Alexandre Claudon, special envoy of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to Haiti.

The SRC wishes to thank all individuals and corporates who have helped to contribute towards the IFRC global appeal fund.
