Project R.I.C.E. 2010
The Singapore Red Cross’s Project R.I.C.E is back! This event will see over 800 SRC youth volunteers collect rice from HDB households in the northern, western, central and southern parts of Singapore on 6 and 7 February.
Rice, which is a staple food for a large part of the world's population, makes up a full meal for most people. As costs go up, not everyone is able to afford this important food source. Project R.I.C.E, which first made its debut in 2009 aims to provide the elderly, low-income families and the disabled this necessary sustenance, which may not be readily available to them.
This year, Project R.I.C.E. makes a return with bigger goals for more beneficiaries. Project R.I.C.E. aims to collecting over 40,000 kg of rice for over 8,000 beneficiaries. Sheng Siong, a major sponsor for this event, is doing its part by donating 500g of rice for every 1 kg of rice collected. Sheng Siong will also sell rice vouchers at a special price of S$9 (usual price $11.30) for a pack of 5 kg Nang Rum Thai rice, which will go directly to Project R.I.C.E.
Sheng Siong will also be donating 500g of rice for every 1 kg of Nang Rum Thai fragrant rice purchased. The rice vouchers will be available at all Sheng Siong outlets.
