RCHN-NTU chapter charity concert
Red Cross Humanitarian Network NTU Chapter
Charity Concert 2009
The first RCHN-NTU Chapter Charity Concert in support of the residents at the Red Cross Home for the Disabled (RCHD). The event was held on 21 March 2009 at Nanyang Auditorium. Titled “Illuminate: Reveal Those Who Are Unseen”; the concert aimed to increase the public awareness of RCHD in hope of garnering support from more people.
Selling at $10 and $50, all proceeds from the sale of the ticket goes to RCHD. Besides sharing with the audience on RCHD, the concert also represented our appreciation and gratitude to past and present donors, as well as supporters of this event.
During our event, we displayed some informative slides about RCHD and also shared with the audience the objective of this concert. The aim was to raise donations for RCHD to purchase physiotherapy equipments in support of the special needs required for the residents.
The Guess-of- Honor for the concert was Professor Er Meng Hwa, Senior Associate Provost of NTU. 3 residents from RCHD also attended the concert under the company of the staff and nursing aid from the home!
Performance for the night includes a wide variety such as Chinese Drum, Wushu, Choir, Piano, Jazz and Blues. Local percussion band, “The Strikeforce” also came down that night and their performance was met with fantastic response. The highlight of the night came when Singapore’s Project Superstar Champion Kelvin Chen Wei Lian serenaded the crowd with a couple of songs!
Moza Helon, student from School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering said, “I enjoyed the performance very much! It was awesome. The Strikeforce was very cool! I loved the two ladies singing in duets and Wei Lian was fantastic! The slides on RCHD were very informative and really touched me, great job Singapore Red Cross!”
RCHN-NTU Chapter hopes that this Charity Concert can help to encourage donors in continuous giving and also inspire other students to get involve in community work and continue our work of caring and sharing. Because of your support, more than 500 tickets were sold for this event and RCHN managed to raise more than $10,000 for the residents of RCHD! Thank you for all your support!
